Before You Spend Money on Book Ads, Check These 5 Things on Your Amazon Page
You’re thinking about running ads for your book. Before you choose keywords, set a budget, or boost a post, take a few minutes to look at the page readers will land on.
An ad can help more people discover your book. But once they click, your Amazon page has to help them decide whether the book is right for them.
That’s why visibility and sales are connected—but they are not the same thing. More people seeing a book does not automatically mean more people will buy it.
Before you spend money to send readers to your page, check these five things.
1. Can readers understand your cover at a small size?
Open your book page on your phone and look at the cover as a small thumbnail.
Can you read the title? Can you quickly tell what kind of book it is? Does the design look like it belongs in the category where you want readers to find it?
A cover does not have to appeal to everyone. It does need to give the right reader a clear reason to look closer.
2. Does the description speak to the intended reader?
Your description should help readers quickly understand what the book offers and who it is for.
Try reading the opening lines as if you know nothing about the book. Do they explain the problem, question, story, or experience the book addresses? Or do they begin with details that matter mainly to you as the author?
A useful description helps the reader recognize, “This might be for me.”
3. Do the keywords and categories match how readers look for books?
Think about the words your intended reader might type when searching for a book like yours. Compare those phrases with the keywords and categories on your KDP book setup.
The goal is relevance. A phrase that sounds impressive but does not match the book may bring the wrong people to your page. A more specific phrase may connect with fewer readers but fit their interests better.
4. Does the rest of the page build confidence?
Check your author page, the book details, and any available reader reviews or A+ content. Make sure the information is accurate and consistent.
You do not need to make the page look elaborate. You want it to answer readers’ reasonable questions and help them feel confident about what they will receive.
5. Do you know what a sale earns before you set an ad budget?
Before launching a campaign, check the royalty you receive for each sale. Then decide how much you can afford to spend while you learn whether the campaign is reaching the right readers.
Amazon ads charge for clicks. A click is not the same as a sale, so set a clear limit and review what happens before increasing your budget.
